Reminder Time - Remember to Check the Calendar of Events |
|
A reminder to check the Calendar of Events before you "just decide" to come down to the range and shoot. Since we are a Firearms Training Facility, you will find most weekend days or Shooting Bays are filled up with training activities or events. Many of which you can be part of either at no charge or a minimal fee to cover cost. If you are using a shooting bay and a Scheduled Group or an Authorized Reserved Event Holder shows up, you must relinquish your time to them. Many events are scheduled months to a previous year in advance. |

Get Trained and Practice |

|
If you currently own or plan to purchase or just purchased a firearm for personal, home, or business defense and protection, for your own safety, and the safety of all others, it is imperative that you become familiar with, and proficient in, the proper operation and safe use of the firearm(s) you selected. |

Once again Safety First Shooting will be holding a Womens Only Handgun Test Drive Event on Saturday, April 14th from 1pm to 4pm on Bay 2. We will have a selection of different makes and models of different calibers for you to try out. This event is free and all handguns and ammo will be provided. Although many of the handguns may no longer be available in California due to our unfair "Approved Handgun Roster", it is still a good way to get an idea of the look and feel of what may be right for you from what is available in our state. You ladies need to choose a gun that right for you. Not what your significant other says is right for you. Come out and test drive a gun to see what is right for you. Safety Equipment (Eyes and Hearing Protection) will be provided if you do not have your own. We highly recommend wearing a shirt that is closed around the neck to avoid Hot Brass from entering certain areas of the body. |

Protected Wildlife Just a reminder that while on this range or the Bettencourt Properties, without specific permission from the Bettencourt Family, ALL wildlife, mammal, reptile or amphibian, is a protected species regardless of local, state and federal regulations. We are unique as this range supports an abundance of wildlife in its surrounding greenery and waterways not usually seen in the outlying areas. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the wildlife available while you're using the range (Insects not included). |

Did You Know
The 4H State Archery Tournament was held at our range on Sunday, May 29th 2022. The 4H National Training Conference was held at our range on Monday, May 2nd, through Thursday, May 5th 2022 The Girl Scouts of America have opted to start training their new opportunities to learning at River Oaks starting in 2020. River Oaks hosted the 4-H California State and National Western Heritage Championships on July 30 - August 1 of 2019. River Oaks Firearms Training Center hosted the 1st ever California State 4-H Western Heritage State Championships on May 6th and 7th 2017. River Oaks Firearms Training Center through Safety First Shooting Association (SFSA) trains more people about firearms in one year, than any other range in California combined does in five years. All SFSA training instructors and helpers, certified or not, are all volunteers. They are not paid for all the work, time and effort spent that they put in at the range. Any monies collected are to cover material and range cost spent required to teach certain classes. This Website has been Designed and Maintained Free by a Volunteer SFSA Member since August of 2006 A couple of times a year, River Oaks Firearms Training Center offers for "FREE" WOMENS ONLY, Introduction to Handguns, Handgun Test Drive Events and Refuse To Be A Victim classes. "FREE" mean Guns and Ammo and Classes provided at no charge. Safety First Shooting Association (SFSA), is pleased to announce a new opportunity for our community's youth to learn firearm safety and marksmanship training through our new "Youth only Shooting Sports Training" program starting July 2017. |

SB2 CCW Live Fire Qualifications |
|
Unless SB2, starting on January 1, 2024 gets modified or overturned; the New Live Fire Qualifications for those now lucky enough to get their Concealed Carry Permits have changed. This is a state wide Course of Fire (COF) and no longer done on a county by county COF. In my opinion (the Webmaster), this new COF to qualify leaves out disabled people, slow people, non competition shooters and nothing smaller that a 6 shot pistol or revolver. It disqualifies a whole class of people. Those people that have a real need to be able to legally carry. To see a PDF file of the new COF, click HERE. If you want a practice sheet to keep tract of how your doing when you try this new COF, click HERE. Note: You notice you're allowed 5 misses. The only way to use a 5 shot handgun would be to take a miss for the 6th shot on string 9. That is if you don't already have 5 misses. |

"PLEASE" Pick Up Your Spent Brass |
||
|
Part of your new membership walk through should have included instructions that picking up your spent brass or "shell casings (except for .22 brass)", is a requirement when you are done shooting for the day. The range provides a push tool parked either on Bay 2 or 3 to help you out, or you can purchase your own Brass Catcher to help you out in picking it up. Please pick up after yourself and not rely on someone else to pick up after you. Thank You. |
